Thomasville is a quiet town nestled in South Georgia among spacious peanut fields and pecan groves. Around these parts country life is simple and wholesome. The air is clean and the sun smiles warmly over the rich Georgia earth. Our irresistible, light and crunchy Crickle was born in this picturesque countryside; in the home of Mr. and Mrs. A.B. Carlan. Over the years, Mrs. Carlan generously shared her homemade "incredible brittle" with friends at church dinners, business conventions, and especially with young patients at Warm Springs, Georgia, where her daughter was a patient during the polio epidemic of the 1950's.
During the presidential campaign of 1976, people came to visit Plains, located in South Georgia. Tourists always stopped at the Carlan's farm supply business to buy locally grown peanuts. Mrs. Carlan began selling her delicious Crickle in 1976 in a converted vacant house next to the family farm. The house consisted of one stove, one small marble slab, and two employees. In no time, Crickle became so popular that Mr. Carlan began traveling throughout the country selling the delicious peanut brittle. Within twenty years the Carlan's were in a full-size professional kitchen with 20 full-time employees producing the same high quality candies, made in small batches following Mrs. Carlan's original recipe.
Crickle has been made using the same method for the last 25 years. Candies are cooked in small batches then poured out on marble slabs where they are allowed to cool to a light consistency. Filled upon receipt, orders are shipped daily, kitchen fresh. To get the good natural flavor, candies are made without preservatives and thus are not stockpiled in a warehouse.
The Crickle Company offers several delicious Crickle choices. Savor the light and crunchy Crickle made in five varieties including peanut, pecan, cashew, orange flavored peanut, and key lime flavored peanut. Indulge in PopCrickle, a popcorn and peanut mix with almonds and pecans in a honey-vanilla glaze. PopCrickle is available in three different varieties including original, orange, and key lime flavored. Enjoy Roasted and Salted Georgia Pecan Halves, Spiced Pecan Halves, Praline Pecan Halves, and Roasted and Salted Georgia Redskin Peanuts.
In January of 2000 death claimed Mr. Carlan and in March of 2001 Mrs. Carlan sold the business to Jerry Hunter, Harry T. Jones and Randy Harvey, owners of Blackberry Patch and experienced in the gourmet food industry. Mrs. Carlan is still involved with the company as a consultant. Mr. Hunter, Mr. Jones and Mr. Harvey continue the Crickle tradition of sweet candy goodness and southern charm by using local farms to provide the most important ingredient, high quality nuts.
Crickle is available today throughout the United States in gourmet food shops, resorts, gift shops, gift basket and mail order catalogs, specialty food stores, various travel destinations, and right here our online store, www.crickle.com.
